Pawel Tarnowsky and coach Maciej
The Medal race for the girls started at 13.00 hrs and there were no big surpasses in this race. Agnieszka Bilska (POL-9) showed that she's the by far the best at this event and won the race. After her 4th place at the ISAF Youth Worlds and the 2nd place at the RSX Youth Europeans so finally gets her reward this event taking the Gold! The podium was filled with two more Polish girls, Youth European Champion 2011 Kamila Smektala (POL-104) took the silver and Barbara Dmuchowska (POL-118) the bronze. So an all Polish podium like at the RSX Youth Europeans 2011. I think it's time for the rest of the girls to see how they can beat this Polish domination!
In the boys fleet the fight was mainly on for the silver and bronze. Pawl Tarnowsky (POL-182) only had to cover the French guys and keep his equipment in one piece to secure the Gold. And the way he did it looked easy, finishing the race 2nd. After missing out on a medal at the ISAF Youth Worlds 2011, he finished 4th, he is now not only the RSX Youth European Champ but also the Worldchampion 2011! A great performance, winning 8 out of 11 races.
Looking back at the week I think we had great conditions. The Italians kept their promise: "Cagliari would be mainly planing conditions and good weather". And it were the Polish dominating taking the gold in the girls and boys fleet. It's probably a good sign for the rest of the World that something needs to be done to make sure that next year the fight for the gold will be much harder. The Hong Kong boys had a great learning experience as well this week. Michael Cheng (HGK-16) showed some really good results in the planing races so that's a big step forward compared to last year. Wing Ho Tang (HGK-23) sailed a steady event and performed as expected in the conditions we had. So now it's back home and take a rest and afterwards start preparing for 2012.

RSX Youth Worlds 2011: Day 4
On the fourth day of the RSX Youth Worlds 2011 it was back to planing conditions. The south easterly breeze came in early and at the start of the first race it was a nice 12 - 14kn. During the day the wind kept on building slowly up to 18kn. The RSX had a quick schedule with 3 races back to back and finished the day around 13.00hrs. In the boys fleet it was Pawel Tarnowski (POL-182) who kept on the winning streak. Only in the first race Sam Sills (GBR-60) was able to beat Pawel but the other 2 races he won with a good lead. For tomorrow he has a 13 points lead going into the medal race and it will be hard to take the gold away from him. The battle for the second place overall was done by teammates Louis Giard (FRA-155) and Fabian Pic (FRA-7). They seemed to follow each other in the races but the advantage was for Fabian with 5 - 2 - 2. Louis posted 6 - 3 - 3 and is overall still on second place one point ahead of Fabian. This looks like a nice fight for tomorrow's medal race. Sam Sills, now overall on 4th place, can still make a silver or bronze medal but then he needs a good medal race compared to the French guys. Kiran Badloe (NED-194) still had some chances to get into the medal race but a broken mast just before the start of race 3 puts him back to 16th overall. Bad luck! The Hong Kong windsurfers showed some mixed results. Michael Cheng (HGK-16) had some troubles at the start in the first two races but had a great third race finishing 5th. I'm happy to see that his speed is good, he now knows where to work on.
In the girls fleet it was also Poland who won the races. Agnieszka Bilska (POL-9) puts another 2 bullets behind her name and a 2nd in the last race of the day. She has now won 7 out of nine races, a great performance for her. In tomorrow's medal race she can only drop to 2nd place if trouble happens but with the way she's performing so far she deserves the gold. Kamila Smektala (POL-104) is steady on second place with a 2 - 3 - 1 today. She has a 12 point lead on 3rd place Barbara Dmuchowska (POL-118). At the moment a full Polish podium in the girls fleet. Only Jeanne Dantes (FRA-4) can disturb this little party if she manages to be at least 5 places ahead of Barbara Dmuchowska in the medal race (of course with the dopple point system).
RSX Youth Worlds 2011: Day 3
On day 3 of the RSX Youth Worlds 2011 it was a matter of patience. The RSX fleet was sent out to start racing at 10.30hrs but as soon as the surfers arrived at the racing area the wind died completely. After a wait for 2 hrs the RC decided to sent back everybody. So the waiting continued onshore. It took a long time time but finally at 15.15hrs the wind changed to the sea breeze direction and became a bit more stable. So back to racing. It was clear that it would be a light wind race with a bit of choppy waves. So especially for the heavier surfers this would turn out to be a tough one! From the top 10 of the overall standings before the race only 3 boys managed to finish race 7 in the top 10. Overall leader Pawel Tarnowski (POL-182) finished 9, Mateo Sanz Lanz(ESP-36) on 3rd and Sebastian Fleischer (DEN-158) 6th. The race itself showed a big right hand shift in the first upwind and with the wind between 5 - 7kn it was hard to come back. Frenchman Yann Dupont (FRA-972) did a great job and won the race ahead of young Italian Mattia Camboni (ITA-88). The Hong Kong boys were looking forward to a day with lighter winds and felt a bit disappointed after the delay in the morning. When it was time to race it was Wing Ho Tang who did a good job finishing 11th. Michael Cheng however got stuck on the left side and tried hard to come back in the race. But in the Goldfleet it's of course not so easy so has to discard this race. The girls fleet again had to wait for a long time but after the finish of the boys races the wind was dying of more and the end of the day was called; AP over A. Tomorrow will be the next day of the Goldfleet. The forecast is showing a building south-easterly and if this correct then we might even be able to do another 3 races. So the pressure builds ups to get a spot for the Medalrace on friday.
RSX Youth Worlds 2011: Day 2
On day 2 of the RSX Youth Worlds 2011 is was another challenging day for the competitors. The wind of yesterday kept blowing the whole night and in the morning we had perfect conditions. Winds of around 15 - 18kn and a nice swell of around 2mtr. Some competitors were a little impressed by the wavy conditions but at 10.30hrs it was action time for girls and after that the boys started racing. It was obvious that there was a big difference in performance by the surfers. The surfers leading the fleets were playing with the waves while others were fighting with them, sometimes swimming. But anyway everybody put a good effort in and 3 races were sails back to back. I'm sure that most of them will have a good sleep after 6 races in 2 days. In the boys fleet it was again another outstanding performance of Pawel Tarnowski (POL-182) who was punishing the fleet with big leads in all the races of the yellow fleet. Sam Sills (GBR-60) was the the only one getting a bit close to him and posted a 2 - 2 - 6, which puts him now on 4th overall. In the blue fleet it was a french battle. Fabian Pic (FRA-7) had an inpressive 3 - 1 - 1 score, closely followed by Louis Giard (FRA-155) with 1 - 2 - 3. Giard is now 2nd overall and Pic is 3rd. On 5th overall is Tom Squires who recovered from his bad last race yesterday with a solid 3 - 3 - 7. In the girls fleet it's still Agnieszka Bilska (POL-9) who is leading with today's score of 3 - 1 - 1.
The Hong Kong boys were a little bit impressed by the waves in the beginning but during the day they were sailing better. Both of them are easy into the Goldfleet. Michael Cheng (HGK-16) is now on 20th place and Wing Ho Tang (HGK-23) is on 35. So from tomorrow on in the Goldfleet there's some work to do!
The forecast for tomorrow is that the wind will turn more Westerly and be a bit lighter then the first 2 days. The first is again scheduled at 10.30hrs.
RSX Youth Worlds 2011: Day 1
The RSX Youth Worlds 2011 started today in Cagliari, Italy. And straight away it was an interesting day. In the morning there were big clouds and no wind but as soon as the sun came through the wind picked up and it was Racing time! The RSX boys yellow started in marginal conditions but half way their race it was on to planing and so it was for the other 2 races. It was clear that in this group it was Pawel Tarnowski who knows what to do with these conditions . He was sailing without any threads to a triple bullet sheet, 1 - 1 -1. In the blue fleet the leading boys were Louis Giard (FRA-155) with 2 - 1 - 2 and Sam Sills 1 - 2 - 4. Other top contenders in the top 5 at the moment are Fabian Pic (FRA-7) and Sebastian Fleischer (DEN-158). Most interesting race was for sure race 3 of the yellow fleet. A couple of fast guys, especially Tom Squires (GBR-931) and Kiran Badloe (NED-194) somehow managed to mix up mark 1 and 2 and took a bad score. They can fix it when after race 5 the discard comes in.
Wing Ho Tang on the other hand was posting pretty steady results and after a good start in race 3 of the blue fleet managed to finish on 12. Well done.
In the girls fleet the Polish girls power continued as it was at the Youth Europeans. It was Agnieszka Bilska (POL-9) who won all the races and is closely followed on 6 points by Youth European Champion Kamila Smetkala (POL-104).
Tomorrow the forecast again looks good and their are chances of bringing in another 3 races. The girls will start first at 10.30 followed by the boys 10 min later.
Up till now there were no results posted for the Bic Techno so better check the website!
Voorbereidingen RSX Youth Worlds 2011
RSX Youth Worlds 2011 Cagliari (ITA)

The battle for the other 2 medals was intense. Sam Sills (GBR-60) was leading at the mark 1 but in the downwind overtaken by Louis Giard (FRA-155). During the race Giard extended his lead and secured the Silver. Fabian Pic (FRA-7) on the other played a dangerous game for the bronze. He lost the contact with Sills and Giard early in the race by choosing the other side of the upwind. This decision put him back to ninth place in the race and he wasn't able to close the gap in front if him. Sam Sills had some stress moments after finishing watching if Pic could come back but unfortunately for the Frenchmen it didn't work out. He had taken to much risk and lost the bronze to Sam Sills, who was of course really happy (see photo). Sebastian Fleischer (DEN-158) sailed a good medal race finishing 4th which puts him overall on 5th position.
